About us

The SUPPORT Project is an international Collaboration Network that involves a world-class partnership between LMIC and European scientists and LMIC policymakers. Its objective is to provide training and support to encourage researchers and policymakers in collaborative policy-relevant research. This Consortium has ten partners in nine countries and focuses on maternal and child health.

SUPPORT was funded by the European Commission´s 6th Framework Programme Priority FP6-2004-INCO-DEV-3, and by the Global Health Research Initiative (GHRI) of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).

The SUPPORT collaboration builds on two existing networks with experience in research and linkage to policy-making, one in Latin America and one in sub-Saharan Africa.

It also has highly relevant collaborative links to researchers in Asia and Canada. The partnership has long-standing contacts with local, provincial and national policymakers in three southern African and three Latin American countries.

Also, the core members of SUPPORT have all worked together previously and successfully in European Comission (EC) projects. One of these, PRACTIHC, focussed mainly on building researcher capacity through training and research protocol development (funded by the EC´s 5th Framework International Collaboration with Developing Countries, research contract ICA 4-CT-2001-10019)
